The Last Will and Testament of Francis READ of Passyunk Township, Philadelphia
County, Pennsylvania. I, Frances READ, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life,
and being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, do make and publish
my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. that is to say, Imprimis. I will
order and direct that all my just debts and funeral expences, shall out of my personal estate
and effects, be fully paid and satisfied and from and after payment thereof, and subject
thereto, then my will is that all my household furniture shall be indifferently appraised and
after such appraisement made that the said furniture shall be equally divided between my
son William Read, and my daughter Eliza Thompson widow to whom I give and bequeath
the same share and share alike. I further give and devise to my son William aforesaid all
that farm, together with the house, barn etc. thereon situate, lying and being on the south
side of the Buck road in Passyunk Township and county of aforesaid, to hold to him, the
said William Read his heirs and assigns forever. And I hereby give and bequeath to my
daughter Eliza Thompson widow aforesaid all that Messuage or Tenement with
appurtenances and lands adjoining in all eight acres, situate lying and being on the North
side of the Buck road in the township and county aforesaid to hold to her the said Eliza
Thompson aforesaid her heirs and assigns forever. And lastly as to all the rest residue, and
remainder of my real and personal estate, goods, stock, chattels, merchandizes of what
kind of nature soever. I give and bequeath the same to my said son William Read his heirs
and assigns forever whom I hereby appoint sole executor of this my last Will and
Testament, hereby revoking all other wills by me at any former time made, and declaring
this only to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof (in consequence of my
inability to write my name) I have and now do direct Thomas Latimer of the County
aforesaid to sign my name for me to this my last will and testament this twenty seventh
November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven (1847).

Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Francis Read to be his last Will
and Testament, who did direct Thomas Latimer in our presence to sign his name to the
seal of this, the above, his last Will and Testament, and the said Thomas Latimer did in our
presence and in the presence of the Testator sign his name, to wit Francis Read aforesaid
to this his last Will and Testament, and at the request of the said Francis Read and in his
presence and in the presence of each other we have hereunto subscribed our names as
witnesses.

to Collateral Inheritance.

Then personally appeared David Farrell & David Farrell Jr.
the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Will of Francis Read Sr. deceased, and on their
solemn Oaths did say that they were present and did see and hear Francis Read Sr.
deceased, the Testator therein named, sign, seal, publish and declare the same as and for
this last Will and testament, and that at the doing thereof, he was of sound, disposing
mind, memory, and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief; and that he
the dec'd requested Thomas Latimer to sign his name, and said T. Latimer did in presence
of dec'd and of us sign the name "Francis Read," by his express direction.

There personally appeared David Farrell of the City of Philadelphia and John Steward of
the same place. And on their Solemn Oaths duly administered according to the law did
respectively depose and Say that they were at the time of his decease, and for many years
prior thereto, well acquainted with Francis Read the Testator in the hereunto
a____[annexed?] will named and that the said Francis Read was at all times incapable of
writing and of Signing his name, and that in Consequence of Such inability he the said
Francis Read at all times made his mark instead of Signing his name.
