Philadelphia County Will No 112, 1850, John Medowcroft
In the name of God Amen I John Meadowcraft of the County of Philadelphia being
in ill health but of mind and memory do hereby declare and make this as my last
Will and Testament as follows.
First I commend my soul to Almighty god and desire that I may upon my death be
interred according to the rites of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Second I order and direct that as soon after death as possible my funeral
expenses, and all my past debts immediately then due shall be paid.
Third it is my express order, direction and desire and I hereby direct my
Executors hereinafter named as soon as possible after my decease to set over,
sell, transfer, and assign on to Daniel Arbuckle Jr of Manayunk all my share,
right, title and interest as well as stock in trade, fixtures, monies, credits,
effects and property real, personal or mixed belonging or accruing to me in or
attached to the firm of J Meadowcraft and Co of Manayunk of which said firm I am
now a member for a sum of money Not less than Fifteen Thousand dollars the said
sum to be secured upon the transfer by a mortgage upon the said right, title,
interest, stock in trade, fixtures monies, credits, effects and property real
personal or mixed within and above named and if at any time when required the
said sum under mortgage above named shall be paid or when the same shall be paid
then I direct that the same may be distributed according to the laws of State of
Pennsylvania.
Fourth I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Susanna all my property real and
personal in which it is my intention to include the amount or sum for which my
interest situate in the factory at Manayunk shall sell for and during the term
of her natural life and subject to her separate and individual control during
that term and from and after the decease of my said wife Susanna I give and
bequeath all my property real and personal unto my child or children of which
may be living at the time of her decease and the legal issue of such of them who
may then be deceased, their heirs or assigns in equal parts such issue taking
and among themselves equally dividing such share and part only as his, her, or
their Parent would have taken if living.
And now I hereby revoke, declare null and set aside and entirely abrogate any
and all Will or Wills, Testaments or Declarations heretofore made by me but in
Witness I the Testator do order, request, and ordain that my beloved Wife
Susanna and my esteemed Brother in Law Samuel Arbuckle be and act as Executors
to this my last Will and Testament this my last will and Testament being written
upon one sheet of paper to which I now affix my hand and seal this Sixth day of
April in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty.

The above and within last Will and Testament of John Meadowcraft was read to
signed, sealed published and declared by the above name John Meadowcraft as his
last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our
names in the presence of the Testator and each other.

We do swear that as the Executors of the foregoing last will and testament of
John Medowcroft deceased, we will well and truly administer the goods and
chattels, rights and credits of said deceased, agreeable to laws and that we
will comply with the provisions of the law relating to Collateral Inheritance.

Then personally appeared Henry Keim MD & Wm G Smith the subscribing witnesses to
the foregoing will of John Medowcraft deceased, and on their solemn oaths did
say that they were present, and did see and hear John Medowcroft deceased, the
Testator therein named, sign seal, publish and declare the same as and for his
last will and testament, and that at the doing thereof, he was of sound,
disposing mind, memory, and understanding, to the best of their knowledge and
belief.

Personally came before me Register of Wills, in and for the said City and

who upon their solemn affirmation did say, that they, at the request the
Executors well and truly and without prejudice or partiality, value and
appraise the Goods and Chattels, Rights and Credits, which were of John
Meadowcroft deceased, and in all respects perform their duties as appraisers,
to the best of their skill and judgment.
