Will of Barbara ATKINSON, Philadelphia, PA
Written 3 Dec 1808, proved 12 Jan 1809.

     To all whom it may concern know ye that I, Barbara Atkinson, now of the 
Township of Moyamensing in the County of Philadelphia, late of the district of Southwark 
in said county, widow, feeling my bodily strength grow weaker and my health fast 
declining but in the perfect use of my reason and recollection, do in the name of God make 
this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former will or wills by me made.  And 
in the first place, it is proper I should state the property whereof I am now possessed 
which consists in one note of hand of Mr. Andrew Montgomery of Southwark for four 
hundred dollars and one bond of James Fulton of said district for four hundred dollars 
which, with my furniture, bedding and wearing apparel, constitute all my estate, out of 
which I will, first, that the doctor's bill, the expenses incurred by my funeral, and all my 
just debts, be paid.   After which I bequeath to my dear aunt, Martha Read, one breakfast 
table, eight chairs and one new bedspread.  Secondly, to my cousin Elizabeth Read I 
bequeath one card table, a set of mantle stands, one pair decanter bottles, and my large 
Bible.  To Catherine McKay I bequeath one pair blankets, one worsted coverlid [sic], and 
one pair sheets.  To the sexton of the 3rd Presbyterian Church of the City of Philadelphia 
(as my trustees for this purpose) I bequeath one hundred dollars for the use of the poor of 
said congregation to be distributed in such way as they may think best.  To my cousin 
Martha Stuart I bequeath all the residue of my many furniture and apparel that may be left 
after complying with the above bequests.  And I do hereby constitute and appoint Andrew 
Montgomery of the District of Southwark and James Stuart of the City of Philadelphia 
executors of this my last will and testament.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my 
hand and seal this 3rd day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight 
hundred and eight.

Philadelphia, January 12, 1809.  Then personally appeared Francis Read and 
William Nassau, the witnesses to the foregoing will, the former on oath and the latter on 
his solemn affirmation, did declare and say that they saw and heard Barbara Atkinson, the 
testatrix, sign, seal, publish and declare the same as and to be her last will and testament 
and that at the doing thereof she was of sound mind, memory and understanding to the 
best of their knowledge and belief.
