The following was transcribed on December 29, 2004 by Raymond M. Roberts of Plum
Borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, a descendent of Alexander Black through
his daughter, Barbara (Black) McCollough.
Alexander Black was born February 13, 1788 in Conemaugh Township, Indiana
County, Pennsylvania and died on July 2, 1850, in Rayne Township, Indiana
County, Pennsylvania. Alexander is buried at the Washington Church in Rayne
Township, Indiana County.
Alexander Black's will was probated on July 11, 1850. A record can be found in
Will Book No. 2, page 11. The Last Will and Testament of Alexander Black reads
as follows:
The Last Will and Testament of Alexander Black of Washington Township, Indiana
County
In the name of God, I, Alexander Black considering the uncertainty of this
mortal life and being of sound mind and memory (blessed be Almighty God for the
same) do make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form
following (that is to say)
First, I give and bequeath to my beloved son, James Black all my real personal
and mixed estate on the following conditions: 1st, that he support and maintain
his mother, my beloved wife during her natural life in a comfortable manner.
Second that he pay all my just debts.
Third that he pay unto Christopher Black five dollars in trade, also the like
sum of five dollars to my son David Black.
Fourth that he pay unto each of my daughters, Barbara Black, Sarah Black,
Delilah Black, and Lavinia Black, the sum of one hundred dollars in trade or
their marriage so that such payments can be made without embarrassing my son,
James Black. In case either of my daughters should die before they receive the
above sum and before marriage, then the remaining daughter or daughters to
receive the said sum to be divided share and share alike. If all of my
daughters should die before inheriting the above, then all shall remain in the
hands of my son James Black. Any doctor's fees for said Daughters that may
accrue and to be paid by James Black to be deducted from the above sum of one
hundred dollars and I hereby appoint James Black and S. R. Brandon Executors of
this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of May
AD 1849
Item before signing if my beloved wife should want to live with another child
than James Black said James not be held for her maintenance His

Signed Sealed published and declared by the forenamed Alexander Black to be his
last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his
presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

Be it remembered that on the Eleventh day of July, AD 1850 Before me,
David Peelor, Register of the Probate of Wills and granting letters of
administration in and for the County of Indiana, Was proved and approved the
foregoing instrument of Writing as and for the last will and testament of
Alexander Black late of the township of Washington in the County of Indiana,
Deceased. By the Oaths of Thompson McKee and David S. Black subscribing
witnesses thereto.
And now, to wit July 11, 1850 Letters Testamentary issued to James Black and
Samuel R. Brandon Executors therein named who having been first duly sworn
according to law.

The following notations appear on the record following the will:
July 15th 1851 Mrs. Margaret Black (widow of said deceased) refuses to accept
under the Will. (See Refusal filed with inventory)
For receipt of Barbara McCollough, a legatee in this will for $100 see Deed Book
B=83=146.
