Mrs. Maria R. Carey, 90, of Latrobe RD 6 (Unity Township) died Monday, April 8,
1996, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Aug. 21, 1905, in Unity Township, a
daughter of the late Justin T. and Morna (Mumau) Mumau. She was a charter member
of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Unity Township. A graduate of Latrobe High
School and Indiana Normal School, she had taught a number of years in Unity
Township. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William
C. Carey; a grandson, John Mark Carey; five sisters, Priscilla Grover, Rhoda
Mumau, Rachel Kells, Morna Huffman and Katherine McElhoe, and a brother, Luesta
"Farmer" Mumau. She is survived by two sons, Ronald W. (and his wife, Carol) of
Lawson Heights and Donald Carey of Latrobe RD 6; two grandchildren, Daniel Carey
and Kathleen Beck, and two great-grandchildren, LesLea and Christine Carey.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday in Snyder Funeral Home, Route 982 south of Latrobe (Youngstown).
Service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Unity
Township, with her pastor, the Rev. William E. Ordelt Jr., officiating.
Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. If one wishes, memorial
contributions may be made to the Prince of Peace Memorial Fund, 1325 Mission
Road, Latrobe, PA 15650. Gordon O. Snyder, funeral director.
