Richard H. Braun Jr., 88, of North Port, Fla., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8,
2011. He was born on May 24, 1923, in Pittsburgh. Richard was with Greater
Latrobe Senior High School for 35 years, where he was a physical education
teacher and coordinator and coached track and cross country. He moved to North
Port 21 years ago and was a member of the Masons and Lutheran Church of Living
Waters in Port Charlotte, Fla. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during
World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, John K. Braun, in 1962. Richard
is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane; two sons, Richard H. (Kathy) Braun
III of Pittsburgh and Timothy Jay (Patrice) Braun of Titusville; his brother,
Ronald (Shirley) Braun of North Port; six grandchildren, and four great-
grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, in
the Lutheran Church of Living Waters. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may
be made to the Lutheran Church of Living Waters, 12475 Chancellor Blvd., Port
Charlotte, FL 33953, and TideWell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL
34238. Farley Funeral Home in North Port is handling the arrangements.
