Thomas E. Bates, 56, of 435 Hays Ave., Latrobe, died Wednesday morning at his
home. He was born in Derry Twp., Feb. 20, 1917, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Martin (Sarah Yates) Bates. He was preceded in death by a brother, Campbell
Bates, in November, 1969. He was a member of the Latrobe First Church of God,
BPOE 907, Cooperstown Vets and Sportsmen Association and Kingston Vets and
Sportsmen Club. He was employed by the Latrobe Forge & Spring Inc. He is
survived by his widow, Sarah Keim Bates; two sons and two daughters, James E. of
Derry R.D.2, Jack T. of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Joseph (Joellyn) Adamkovich and
Mrs. Janette Hosack, both of Latrobe; one brother and five sisters, LeRoy Bates
and Mrs. L. D. (Nellie) Mumau, both of Latrobe, Mrs. Minna Myers of
Markleysburg, Pa., Mrs. Stephen (Dorothy) Bravis of Latrobe, Mrs. Virginia
Goodman of Latrobe R.D.4, and Mrs. Larry (Lucille) Huber of Florida, and three
grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the John J. Lopatich Funeral
Home, Latrobe, starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, then from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
daily. Funeral services will be held in the Latrobe First Church of God at 11
a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Charles Carl officiating. Interment will follow in
Unity Cemetery, Unity Twp. The BPOE 907 Lodge will hold services at 7:30 p.m.
Friday in the funeral home
