Banker, 88, of Latrobe, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in Loyalhanna Care Center, Derry Township. He was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Elmer E. and Mary (Warnick) Banker. Prior to his retirement, Bill was a manufacturer's representative for the Alexander Smith Division of Mohasco Industries. He had also been previously employed by the former Pierce Woolen Mill in Latrobe and by Jean Allen Products of Lowell, Mass. He was a proud veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Corps. He was a member and oldest elder of the United Presbyterian Church in Latrobe, where he taught Sunday school and served as the Sunday school superintendant. He was also a member of F and AM Loyalhanna Lodge 275, Tall Cedars Westmoreland Forest 77, the Syria Temple, the Arab Patrol and the Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515. Bill had a passion for old airplanes and was a member of Air Heritage Inc., which is an organization dedicated to the restoration of World War II aircraft. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, LaVerne (Smith) Banker, in September 2013. He is survived by his son, Barry Banker and his wife, Linda, of Youngstown; two granddaughters, Bethany McNiel and her husband, Mark, of Youngstown, and Becki Pellis and her husband, Matthew, of Unity Township; and five great-grandchildren, Cole, Alexis and Kyle McNiel and Adam and Averi Pellis. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with his pastor, the Rev. Donald W. Graff, officiating. Private interment will be in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.
