Edward Orpheus Banker, a former well known Derry resident, died at his home, in
Huntington, Pa., at 210 a. m. yesterday from a heart attack. Mr. Banker was 67
years old last November. While in Derry, Mr. Banker was superintendent of the
sand plant of the American Window Mass Co. He was very active in civic and
religious affairs of the community, having served on the borough council as its
president for several years. He was one of the civic leaders who was
instrumental in obtaining paved streets and the present sewer system for Derry
borough. Mr. Banker left Derry to go to Huntington as superintendent of the
Mapleton Sand Co., still serving in that capacity at the time of his death.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Guyula Hackley Banker; 3 children, Eugene, of
Lewistown, Pu.; Maurice, of Huntington; and Mrs. Vera Ellinger, of Coatestown,
Pa., all of whom were born in Derry. Seven grandchildren also survive. Funeral
services will be conducted in Huntington at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon with
interment following at that place.
