The Carnesville Herald And Advance June 24, 1948
The body of Pfc. Joseph W. Slocum was brought to the States and buried in Middle 
River cemetery Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, after appropriate services with 
military honors at the Church. Rev. S.A. Phillips and Rev. Garnet Wilson 
officiated.

Pallbearers were: Farris Slocum, Jewel Slocum, Johnnie Slocum, B.W. Slocum Jr., 
Ralph Phillips, and Horace Dove.

He was killed in action in North Africa April 23, 1943. He was only 23 years old 
at the time of his death. He was a fine young man with sterling character and had 
many friends in Franklin County.

Surviving are his father, B.W. Slocum, sisters, Mrs. G.C. Hart Jr., Mrs. Edd 
Slaton, Mrs. Horace Dove, Mrs. Ralph Phillips, Mrs. Walter Fleming, Cornelia 
Slocum; brothers, Farris, Hoyt, Jewel, Johnnie, and B.W. Slocum Jr.

B.D. Ginn, funeral director, was in charge of arrangments.
