In the Name of God Amen the last will and testament of me John Trammell of 
Frederick County and state of Maryland made this first day of January in the 
year of our Lord Seventeen hundred and eighty four in the manner and form 
following (to wit). 

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Friend William Drown Senr. All that part of my 
Tract of land called Trammels.. Coney Islands. Beginning for said part at the 
Lower end of the plantation ne in the tenure of a certain John Unglesby on the 
bank of Powmack River thence with a straight line drawn at right angels with 
said river to the our lines of said tract of land all the upper part of the said 
tract I have to the said William Drawn during his natural life and also all the 
wearing apparel I may have at the time of my decease. 

Item: I give and bequeath unto my house keeper Comfort Walker the sum of thirty 
pounds current money to be paid to her yearly in three equal payment the first 
of which payments to be at the end of twelve months from the time of my decease. 

Item I give and bequeath unto to my nurse Jemima Tracy the sum of ten pounds 
current money to be paid to her by my executors with to he by my executors 
within twelve months from the time of my decease. 

Item: I give and bequeath unto my sister Milcah Pearson the quantity of one 
hundred acres land to be laid of convenient to the improvements now in her 
possession. I leave the said land to her the said Milkah during her natural life 
provided she shall continue to live on the same and not otherwise. 

Item I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter Susannah Mackall the daughter of 
James Mackell deceased all my lands lying in Fairfax county and common wealth of 
Virginia. I give the said land unto he heirs and assigns forever except that one 
hundred acres which have given to my sister Milcah Pearson during her natural 
life and at the death of my said sister Milcah to fall to her the said Susannah 
Mackall her heirs and assigns forever. And I also give and bequeath unto my said 
grand daughter Susannah all the lands which I purchased of a certain William 
Gladding lying in Loudon county upon Difficult together with the Mill and other 
the appurtenances there unto belonging. I give said Susannah her heirs and 
assigns forever and I also give and bequeath unto the said Susannah Mackall all 
the land which purchased of John Hanby and Margaret St. Clare lying upon Clerks 
Run in Loudon County whereon John Tucker and Thomas Edalen now lives I give the 
said land together with the Mill and utensils there unto belonging unto he the 
said Susanna during her natural life and after her death to any lawful child or 
children of hers that she may appoint as touching the whole or any part there of 
Likewise give unto the said Susannah Mackall all that Parcel of land called part 
of Broken Islands I give the said land unto her the said Susannah her heirs and 
assigns forever. And likewise I give unto the said Susannah one undivided fourth 
part of my copper mines and the lands thereto belonging which I purchased of 
Stephen Richards. I give the said land and copper mines (one fourth part there 
of ) th her the said Susannah during her natural life and after her death to any 
lawful child or children of hers that she may appoint as touching the whole or 
any part there of and to take place at any time or times as she may appoint by 
any writing as a will at her pleasure whether she be single or married. I also 
give and bequeath unto her the said Susannah my Negro Woman Named Lyd and her 
four children (Viz) Priss, Siner, Jacob and Aiery their further increase I give 
the said Negroes and their increase unto the said Susannah during her natural 
life and then at her disposal in the same manner that her part of the copper 
mines are. Not with standing it is my will that if the said Susannah should die 
without leaving heirs at the time of her death lawful begotten of her body or 
for want of such lawful heirs at any future time then I devise the said land 
lying on Clerks Run in Loudon county the said one undivided fourth part of my 
Copper Mines and the lands there unto belonging lying in Frederick County, 
Maryland and the aforesaid Negroes with their further increase to my daughter 
Sarah Delashmutt the wife of Lindsey Delishmutt to be at her own disposal 
amongst her children at the time of her decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto 
my grandson Trammell Delashmutt the son of my daughter Sarah and her husband 
Lindsey Delashmutt all that Island lying in Potowmac known by the name of the 
Conoy Islands being part of a tract of land called Trammels Conoy Islands where 
on my quarter now is and like wise one hundred acres of timbered being also part 
of the said Tract of Land called Trammels Conoy Islands lying on the East side 
of Killochton Mountain to be laid of one hundred perches distant from Potowmack 
River at the foot of said Mountain and to Run with a line parallel with 
Potowmack River up the said Mountain until it intersects the out lines of the 
said tract of land called Trammels Conoy Islands then Reversing said lines so as 
to include the said one hundred acres of timbered land lying on the east side of 
the said mountain by a line drawn parallel to the line next the river. I also 
give the said Trammel Delashmutt one hundred acres of land part of which Begins 
at the mouth of a gutt which makes into Potowmack River called Dunkins Gutt the 
down Potomack River so as to include the place where on William Adams now lives 
ana field called the Conoy fields lying between said River and Arthur Nelson's 
land as also ninety acres of land more to be taken out of a tract formerly 
called Wood Lands but now Reserved and called Rock Hall to be laid of out of 
said land called Rock Hall on Potowmack River most convenient to the Conoy 
Islands and it is my will that my executors lay out four hundred lots in a town 
each lot to be sixty feet in front and one hundred and twenty feet in back with 
suitable and convenient streets and alleys to be laid off on that part of my 
lands called Trammels Conoy Islands and Woodland which is between a tract of 
land called Sweeds Folly and Potowmack River at the Point of Rocks and the said 
town lots to be sold out from time to time and as soon as may be by me executor 
for eight silver dollars a lot and a ground rent of not less then eighteen 
shillings. Sterling reserved as an annual rent on each lots ends under certain 
stipulations respecting the improvements of each and every particular lots. I 
give unto the said Trammell Delishmutt two hundred of the said four hundred lots 
together with all the issues and profits arising out of the said two hundred 
lots so to be laid off and disposed of and allotted him here and there equal in 
situation and value with the other lots. 

Item I give and bequeath unto the said Trammell Delashmutt one undivided moiety 
ro half part of my copper Mines and the lands I purchased of Stephen Richards 
together with all the appurtenances to the said moiety or half part belonging. I 
also give unto the said Trammel Delishmutt my Negro woman named Isabella and her 
seven children (viz) Morris, George, tom, Clevry, Lyd, Daniel and Rachal all the 
said Negreo's and their future increase. All the said land and Negroes so given 
to my said grand son Trammell Delismutt I give to him his heirs and assigns 
forever. 

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Delashmutt the wife of Lindsey 
Delashmutt all the rest and remaining part of my lands and personal estate for 
and during her natural life and after her death to any lawful child or children 
of hers that she may appoint as touching the whole or any part there of and for 
such quantity of estate or interest and to take place at such time or times as 
she may appoint by an writing as a will inviolable or revokable at her pleasure 
whether she be single or married and incase no such appointment Shall be made as 
to any part there for or which shall not in include the whole hat then the whole 
or what part shall not be so covered by appointment shall go to an d be equally 
divided amongst the children of the said Sarah which shall be living at the time 
of her death if she shall leaving any children and their heirs and assigns but 
if the said Sarah should die without leaving heirs living at the time of her 
death then I devise all the said lands an personal estate to my grand daughter 
Susannah Mackall for such estate and interest and subject to such appointment as 
to a part or whole and to go in like mama for want of such appointment as is 
provided and directed as to the copper mines and as lands there unto adjoining 
immediately devised to her and it is further my will that survivorship shall not 
take place in respect to my copper mines or lands there unto belonging or 
adjoining other to them to whom the same is devised or their heir or assign. But 
in case both the said Sarah and Susannah should die with out leaving lawful 
heirs of their of them living at the time of their death of the survivor of them 
or for want of such lawful heirs then I give all my lands and Negroes with their 
future increase to my heirs at law. 

Finally I do appoint and ordain my said daughter Sarah Delashmutt executors of 
this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all together 
wills here to for mad by em witness by my hand and seal the day and year above 
written. Signed sealed published declared by the said testator as and for his 
testament and last will in the presence of us who have subscribed hereto as 
witness in the presence of this testator and of each other at his request [John

Samuel F Thomas. Frederick County February 24 1784. 

Then came Sarah Delashmutt and Lindsey Delashmutt and made oath on the Holy 
Evangelists of Almighty God that the forgoing instrument of writing is the true 
an d whole will and testament of John Trammell late of Frederick County deceased 
that hath come to their hands or possession and that they doth not know of any 
other of a later date. Geo Meurdock Reg.

Frederick County February 24 1784 then came Josiah Clapham, Isaac Stone, William 
Jenkins and Samuel F Thomas. Four of the subscribing witnesses to the forgoing 
last will and testament of John Trammell late of Frederick County deceased and 
Severally made oath on the holy Evangelists of almighty God also John Stone the 
other subscribing witness who solemnly affirmed and declared that they did see 
the testator there in named sign and seal this will and that they heard him 
publish pronounce send declare the same to be his last will and testament that 
at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of sound 
and disposing mind memory and under standing and that they respectively 
subscribed there names as witnesses to this will in the presence and at the 
request of the testator and all the presence of each other Geo. Murdock Reg.
