LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF
ADAM HAGAN

Frederick, MD.


In the name of God amen.
I, Adam Hagan, in the county of Frederick, in the state of Maryland, being of sound mind 
and memory (blessed be Almighty God for the same) and considering the uncertainty of 
life and certainty of death do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament.

Item First: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Cordelia all of my household furniture 
and all the rest of my personal property during her single life, and in the event of her 
marrying, to go to my children equally divided share and share about.

Item Second: I also give, devise, and bequeath, to my beloved wife Cordelia, all my Real 
Estate, as long as she shall remain unmarried and my widow, but on her decease or 
marriage, the said Estate to go to my said children, and their heirs respectively, to be 
divided in Equal Shares between them.

Item Third:  I will and bequeath to my Children, Charles Hagan, Richard Hagan, Margaret 
Leather, Francis Hagan, John Thomas Hagan, Adam Hagan, William M. Hagan, Jane 
Hammond, Singleton Hagan, and Lavenia Hagan, all my Estate, both personal and real, at 
the death, or marriage of my widow Cordelia, to be Equally divided between them share 
and share about.

Item Fourth:  I do nominate and appoint my beloved wife Cordelia and Samuel Nixdorff 
of Ijamsville of Frederick County to be Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.

In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and Seal and publish the decree this to be my 
Last Will and Testament in presence of witnesses named below, this thirteenth day of 
March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five.

Signed, sealed, delivered and published by the said Adam Hagan, as and for his Last Will 
and Testament in presence of us, who at his request, and in his presence and in presence of 
each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto.

State of Maryland, Frederick County to wit:

On the 26th day of June 1855 came Thomas A. Baker & Henry T. Tenndle, two of the 
subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Last Will and Testament of Adam Hagan late of 
Frederick County deceased, and made oath of the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that 
they did see the testator therein named sign and seal said will, that they had him publish, 
pronounce, and declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament, that at the time of his 
so doing he was to the best of their ____ of sound and disposing mind, memory and 
understanding and they respectively subscribe their names as witness thereto, and they also 
did see Alexander Iamison, the other subscribing witness, sign his name as witness to said 
will at the request of the testator in his presence and all in the presence of each other.

To the Register of Wills for Frederick County,

I, Cordelia Hagan, Widow of Adam Hagan, late of Frederick County deceased, do hereby 
decline to act as Executrix on the Estate of my deceased husband and so therefore 
renounce all my right, title and claim to said Administration, desiring at the same time that 
Setters testam__tay may be granted to Samuel Nixdorff as acting Executor of said 
deceased.

Witness my hand and seal this 31st day of July 1855.
