In the name of God Amen.  I Gilbert Davis of Frederick County, in the State of 
Maryland being, sick and weak in body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory 
and understanding, considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the 
time thereof, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in 
manner & form following, that is to say: After my debts and funeral charges are 
paid, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Davis all my Estate, 
both real and personal, for and during her life, and after her decease, then I 
give and bequeath, all my said real and personal unto my five children, and four 
grand children, the children of my son Thomas Davis deceased; in equal portions, 
share and share alike as follows; to my son Luke Davis, one equal share, to my 
son Ephraim Davis, one equal share, to my son James Davis, one equal share, to 
my daughter Amelia Ingman, one equal share, to my duaghter Elizabeth Lewis, one 
equal share, and to my said four grand children James H. Davis, Drusilla E. 
Davis, Gilbert Davis, and John Q. A. Davis, one equal share.  And lastly, I do 
hereby constitute and appoint my dear wife Elizabeth Davis and my son Luke 
Davis, my Executrix and Executor of this my last will and Testament, revoking 
and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming 
this and none other, to be my last will and testament.  

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 
twentieth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and 
thirty.

Signed, sealed, published & declared by Gilbert Davis the above named Testator, 
as and for his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who at his 
request, and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as 
witnesses.

To the Justices of the Orphans Court of Frederick County.

I, Luke Davis, the appointed Executor, in the last will and testament, of 
Gilbert Davis late of Frederick County, deceased, do hereby refuse to and by 
virtue of said appointment on do therefore renounce all my claim to said 
Executorship as witness my hand this 17th day of October 1830.  [signature]

I Elizabeth Davis Executrix of Gilbert Davis, late of Frederick County deceased, 
do hereby renounce the trust imposed on me by my latehusband Gilbert Davis, and 
beg leave to recommend my son in law, Samuel. B. Lewis, as a suitable person to 
administer on said estate.
