OBITUARY: Carl Oliver Flattum, 1929-2002, Worth County, Iowa

                          Carl Oliver Flattum
           
Funeral service for Carl Oliver Flattum, 73, will be held at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood.

The Rev. Steve Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service
and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be
accorded by the Albert Lea Veterans' Organization.

Carl died on Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, MN.

Carl was born on March 17, 1929, in rural Northwood, IA, the son of John
Alvin and Anna (Anderson) Flattum. He attended Silver Lake #6 rural school.

During the Korean War he served with the U.S. Army from 1951-1952. He
received the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge,
and United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of the Lake Mills and
Emmons American Legion.

During his life, Carl had worked at various jobs: truck driver for Hartland
Creamery, backhoe work for Roy Bjorklund, house moving and remodeling for
Lynn Skellenger, drove truck for Larson Manufacturing in Lake Mills, worked
several years for Knutson and Oline John Deere dealership in Emmons, MN,
and for the past 20 years he had worked for his brother at Art Flattum
Salvage.

Survivors include two brothers and two sisters, Josephine (Harold) Sherwood
of Lake Mills, Gladys (Ralph) Sabin of Albert Lea, MN, George (Sadie)
Flattum of Albert Lea, MN, Arthur (Debora) Flattum of Albert Lea, MN;
and nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Orville.
