OBITUARY: Anna Marie Dorsey, Worth County, Iowa [Northwood Anchor online -- www.northwoodanchor.com May 22, 2001] Anna Marie Dorsey [1919-2001] Memorial services for Dorsey held Saturday Anna M. Dorsey, 81, of Kensett, died Tuesday, May 15, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, IA. Memorial services were Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, with Father Thomas McAndrew officiating. Anna Marie Dorsey was born on Nov. 27, 1919, at Swaledale, IA, the daughter of James and Kathryn (Dunn) Dorsey. She attended and graduated from Swaledale High School in 1933. She went on to attend Hamilton College. Anna worked as a secretary for Attorney Arnie Dunn in Mason City shortly after college, and in August 1943, she enlisted in the United States Army. Anna was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II. During the war, she served in New Guinea, and she was awarded the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1945, Anna was honorably discharged from active service in the military. Soon after, Anna began working as a secretary in Knoxville, IA, then she moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she was a medical secretary for a number of years. Most recently, Anna served as an administrative assistant for the City of Vernon, CA. After retirement in 1981, Anna moved back to North Iowa where she spent much time enjoying the outdoors. She loved flowers, gardening, and bird watching, along with being an avid reader. Anna was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Marilyn Dorsey of Kensett, IA; one niece, Melly Dorsey of Kensett, IA; three nephews, James "Joe" Dorsey of Manly, IA, Leo Dorsey and his wife, Kelli of Northwood, IA, and Shawn Dorsey and his wife, Cheryl of Shreveport, Louisiana; and many great nieces and great nephews.
