John Carr died at his home in Albert Lea, MN on September 4, 1909. He
had been ill in bed a week suffering from kidney trouble. He was one of the
earliest settlers in the vicinity, having come to bristol over 50 years ago
where he had resided continuously up until three years ago, at which time,
he moved to Albert Lea. During his residency in Iowa, he was an active
member of the community, working for the betterment of affairs and did his
part in transforming the land from a veritable wilderness into a land of
civilization and the happy homes of today.

Mr. Carr was born in the town of Headford, county of Galway, Ireland in
the year 1840. His father died in the old country and when he was a boy of
fourteen, he accompanied his mother and three brothers and sisters to
America. After spending some time in Canada, the family came to Bristol,
Iowa. His mother died a number of years ago. Two of his brothers had
passed away. About 38 years ago, he married Mary Tuohy from Twin Lakes, MN.
They were parents of five sons and two daughters, who together with his
wife, survive him. He was a kind husband and father. He is also survived
by a brother, Michael and a sister, Mrs. Julia Dadie of Bristol.

His funeral was held at the Catholic church in Albert Lea, with the
Rev. Fr. Kyle in charge of the rites. The remains were placed on the
Minneapolis and St. Louis passenger train and sent to Lake Mills where they
were transported by team and wagon to Bristol for burial.

He leaves behind him countless deeds of kindnesses for which he will
reap his reward in the land beyond.
