Eldon W. Buehrer
Eldon W. Buehrer, 80, of Northwood, IA, died on March 8, 2002 at North Iowa
Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.
Funeral services were Monday at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev.
Paul Holmer officiating. Burial was at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, was in charge of arrangements.
Eldon Walter Buehrer was born on April 15, 1921 at Grafton, IA, to Carl and
Caroline (Trettin) Buehrer. He was baptized at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church,
Grafton, and was confirmed at the same church in 1936. He lived with his
parents on the Buehrer farm one-half mile east of Grafton. He went to school
at Rural #1 School east of Grafton and Grafton Independent School. He entered
the U.S. Navy on Aug. 26, 1942. After his honorable (medical) discharge he
returned to Grafton and later moved to Mason City, where he worked a short
time at Jacob E. Decker & Sons meat processing plant. He then drove bus for
the Winnebago lines out of Mason City to Des Moines, Estherville and Fort
Dodge.
He married Ellen June Wolff of Northwood on June 9, 1946 at the Zion Lutheran
Church, Northwood. He then was employed at Rilco Laminating Products for
2 1/2 years. He was employed at King Seeley Thermos Company of Albert Lea
for 31 years, retiring in 1984. He established Riverside Auto Parts in
Northwood in 1965 along with his employment in Albert Lea, MN. In 1986
his son Mark took over the business.
Eldon was a 57 year member of the American Legion, a life member of the
Disabled American Veterans in Mason City. He held the offices of Commander,
Vice Commander, Service Officer and many years as Adjutant of Smith-Perry
Post #144 of Northwood. He was very proud of his children and their
achievements. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and
great-granddaughter. He and Ellen enjoyed camping in the summer. He was a
member of Moose Lodge in Mason City and the Eagles Lodge in Albert Lea.
He enjoyed visiting his daughter, Sharon and son-in-law Rick and his
grandchildren and great-granddaughter in Tucson, AZ. He enjoyed gardening
and liked to help his son Mark in the business.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen on March 16, 2001; his parents;
a sister Hazel; twin brothers Marvin and Melvin; brother Leslie and a sister
Gladys Kanzenbach of Faribault, MN.
He is survived by his son Mark and wife Lori, grandsons Ryan and Cory,
daughter Sharon Kay Haugebak and son-in-law Rick, grandchildren Heather
DeBerry and her husband Charles, granddaughter Nicki Haugebak, great-
granddaughter Emma DeBerry; son Randy and wife Laure, grandchildren Nathan,
Terra, Megan and Nicole, daughter Dawn and husband Warren; many nieces and
nephews; a sister Muriel Bork of Wanamingo, MN and several cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 2002 at First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, for Eldon W. Buehrer, age 80, of Northwood. Rev. Paul Holmer
