OBITUARY: Lola Margaret (Ashpole) Bratrud, 1913-2002, Worth County, Iowa

                         Lola Margaret Bratrud

Lola Margaret Bratrud, 89, of Kensett, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at the
Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the Bethany
Lutheran Church in Kensett, with Rev. Selmer G. (Sam) Hernes officiating.
Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Kensett.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Conner Colonial Chapel,
1008-lst Ave. South, Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on
Saturday at the church.

Lola Margaret Bratrud was born on Nov. 1, 1913, in rural Winnebago County,
the daughter of Emery and Flora (Bailey) Ashpole.  She attended and received
her education in the Thompson school system.  She married Thomas Bratrud
on May 10, 1931, in Thompson, IA.  He preceded her in death on January
23, 1985.  After their marriage together they farmed west of Elk Creek
before moving to Kensett in 1938.  The family lived in Kensett until
moving to Thompson in 1941, moving back to Kensett in 1946.  After moving
back to Kensett, Lola began working for Winnebago Industries in Forest City,
and from 1959 to 1961, she worked as the manager for her son Allan Bratrud
in his grocery store Quality Foods in Kensett until her retirement.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, church circles and
the church choir.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Allan Bratrud and his wife
Dorothy of Kensett, and James Bratrud and his wife Karen of Macintosh, FL;
two grandchildren, Rick Bratrud of Des Moines, and Randy Bratrud and his
wife Sheila of Kensett; four great-grandchildren, Max Bratrud of Des Moines,
Tessa, Coleby, and Dusti Bratrud all of Kensett; sister, Gayle Bou-telle
of Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Gena Tagesen of Mason City; many nieces and
nephews and a special friend, Dale Brakel of Mason City; as well as other
relatives and friends.

Besides her husband Thomas Bratrud, she was also preceded in death by
her parents, son, Michael Bratrud, daughter, Margaret Bratrud, three
brothers, Emery Jr., Harold, and Russell Ashpole, two sisters, Beulah
Ashpole, and Olive Charleson; two brother-in-laws, Don Boutelle, and
Henry Tagesen.
