OBITUARY: Pearl Dorothy (Johnson) Book, Worth County, Iowa

               Pearl Dorothy (Johnson) Book [1923-2001]

Pearl D. Book, 78,  Mason City, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Mercy
Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services were Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City,
with Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating.  Burial  was at Madison Township
Cemetery in Forest City, IA, with Rev. Lee Laaveg of Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Forest City officiating.

Pearl Dorothy (Johnson) Book was born on March 29, 1923, at Forest
City, IA, the daughter of Oscar and Edna (Langerud) Johnson.  She
attended country schools near Forest City.

On Nov. 30, 1940, Pearl married Gustav Book at Forest City.  The
couple lived and farmed in rural Forest City.  Pearl worked for
Winnebago Industries in Forest City, and in more recent years, she
was employed at Fleetguard, Inc. and Byerly Foods International,
both in Lake Mills.  Pearl retired in the late 1980's.

Pearl moved to Mason City after Gustav passed away in 1993.  In Mason
City, Pearl kept active by playing bingo and calling bingo for the
residents of USA Healthcare nursing home in Mason City.  She also
loved to garden and take care of plants, and she could be found
visiting with her friends regularly at the Community Kitchen.

Pearl was a member of the Mason City Eagles Club, the Young at Heart
Grandmothers Club, Tops, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Moen and her friend, Ernie
Skaaden of Albert Lea, MN, Alice Cobb and her friend, Dave Adams
of Mason City, and Diane Bissette of Mason City; two sons, David
Book and his wife, Vicky of Albert Lea, MN, and Terry Book and his
friend, Debbie Trytten of Albert Lea, MN; 11 grandchildren;
27 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a sister,
Evelyn VonHagen and her husband, Oliver of Northwood, IA; three
brothers, Norman Johnson of Clear Lake, IA, Orville Johnson of
Mason City, IA, and Larry Johnson of Lubbock, TX; and a special
friend, Frank Funk of Mason City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gus; sister,
Elaine Query; brothers, Kenneth, Wayne, Leonard, Vernon, and
Clifford Johnson; grandsons, Rick and Steve Cobb; and a great
granddaughter, Ashley Mandler.
