  DIED AT MERCER
Robert McWatty, D.D., Former Resident of This County Dies at Mercer.

The funeral services of Robert McWatty, D.D., were held from his late
residence in Mercer Tuesday afternoon. Rev. McWatty was born in North
Beaver township, this county, and lived there until he started to
Franklin college, at New Athens, from which institution he graduated in
1850. He then entered the seminary at Allegheny, from which he
graduated a few years later. He received and accepted a call from the
First U. P. church of Mercer, where he remained for 25 years. When the
call for volunteers came to put down the rebellion he went as chaplain
of one of the regiments, and many a dying soldier's last moments were
made happy by his kind words. At the close of the war he returned to
Mercer, but has lived a retired life, only preaching occasionally. He
was a brother of Mrs. McBurney of North Beaver street, this city. He
laves a wife and four children to mourn his loss, but they mourn not as
those who have no hope, for they have the blessed assurance that he has
gone to be with his Master to whose service he had devoted his life.
