  MRS. LEWIS R. THOMAS

Mrs. Lewis R. Thomas, aged and revered resident of West Main Street, passed
away Thursday evening, March 24th at 9:25 o'clock at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. A. M. Anderson, after about three years of poor health, the last four
weeks of which she had been confined to her bed.
Armetta Ostrander was born May 1, 1857 at Port Allegany. She was one of
fourteen children of the late Matthew and Minerva Ostrander.
She was married to Lewis R. Thomas in August, 1884 and has since then spent
all of her life in this vicinity. For some time she had been tenderly cared
for at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. M. Anderson of West Main Street.
She is survived by her husband, L. R. Thomas and nine children: Mrs. Mary
Williams and Miss Vera Thomas of Erie, Pa.; Mrs. Myrtle Hopper of Los Angeles,
Calif.; Almond Thomas of Lewis Run, Pa.; Homer Thomas of Rew, Pa.; Mrs. Olive
Schreiber of Duke Center, Pa.; Mrs. Edna Anderson, Roy Thomas and Clair Thomas
of Smethport; [smudged] grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one
sister, Mrs. Henrietta Freeman of Bradford, Pa.; three brothers, Byron, Walter
and John Ostrander of Port Allegany.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the United Brethren Church of East Smethport
and of the Lady Maccabees. She was a fine Christian woman, and a high type of
wife and mother whose kindly presence will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at St. Luke's
Church. Rev. W. E. VanDyke officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
