  DROPS DEAD AT HIS WORK
Porter D. Ostrander, 73 years old, one of the substantial citizens of the
community, dropped dead Monday afternoon while at work on the Ormsby road. Dr.
Ostrander, nephew of the deceased, was hastily summoned, but an attack of
  heart failure had been fatal.
Mr. Ostrander was born in Sweden Valley, and a few years later his parents
moved to Smethport, where he has since resided. He made his home with his
  daughter, Mrs. Ray Abbey.
He attended the recent reunion of the Ostrander family at Galco Park, and
was apparently in the best of health and spirits.
A large circle of relatives and friends who held the deceased in high
regard because of his sterling qualities, were deeply shocked at the
  suddenness of his demise.
He was a charter member of the P. H. C. lodge.
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of
Mrs. Abbey. Rev. Arthur Gregson conducted the services. Burial was made in
  Rose Hill ceremony.
Those who survive are four brothers, Walter, Byron and John, of Port
Allegany, and Delbert of Davis; three sisters, Mrs. P. C. Freeman, of
Bradford; Mrs. Lewis Thomas and Mrs. A. A. Abbey, of Smethport; three
children, Ray Ostrander and Mrs. Ray Abbey, of Smethport, and Mrs. John
Courneao of Kane; also five grandchildren.
