Died at her home in Keating Township, Thursday morning April 18, 1918. Mrs.
  P. D. Ostrander aged 62 years 8 months and 1 day, the cause of her death being
gall stones. During the winter she had not been in good health, but her
condition was not thought serious until Wednesday morning when she was taken
seriously ill and her death Thursday morning was a great shock to her many
  friends.
Ella Gifford Ostrander was born in Keating township, August 17, 1855, and
was the daughter of Alex and Harriet Gifford. Before her marriage she taught
school a number of years. November 20, 1877, she was untied in marriage to P.
  D. Ostrander of Port Allegany. This union was blessed with three children,
Mrs. R. L. Abbey, Ray and Maude Ostrander all of this place, who with the
husband and father are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother,
other surviving relatives are five grand children (sic) and one brother, D. A.
  Gifford of Crosby.
Not only in her own home will she be missed but by the entire community.
For always in constant sickness or trouble, she was ready to lend a helping
hand. She had a loving generous disposition and was beloved by all who knew
  her.
The funeral services were held at the family home two o'clock Saturday
afternoon, Rev. VanDyke of St. Lukes church officiating. The interment was
  made in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The floral offerings and crowd in attendance bear tribute of the high
esteem in which the deceased was held.
