Port Allegany Man Ends Life
Oscar S. Nelson, a middle age man of Skinner Creek near Port Allegany, shot
himself through the chest using a shotgun about 8 o'clock Wednesday morning,
according to Sheriff Wm. Reese. Coroner Elmer Beatty of Bradford was called
and it is believed he will issue a verdict of suicide. He was found by his
wife, Mrs. Rosa Nelson. A suicide note was found that he had written, saying
he was sick and in a lot of pain and couldn't stand it any longer.
He was employed by the Port Allegany Planing Mill.
His is survived by his wife and five children; one brother, Rupert Nelson
of Port Allegany; two sisters, Mrs. Olga Thomas and Mrs. Ada Vansickle, both
of Kane, and his father, Alfred Nelson of Port Allegany.
Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Gallup Funeral Home and services
will be held from there Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Earl
Mattison, pastor of the EUB Church officiating. Burial will be in Fairview
cemetery.
County Detective Merle Dickinson and Deputy Sheriff Albert Clauser assisted
the Sheriff in the investigation.
