  The Late Henry Garman

Brief Sketch of the Life of a Venerable Man

Mr. Henry Garman died at his residence in Jersey Shore April 24th, 1892 in his
86th year. "Father" Garman was born in Dauphin County and came to Jersey
Shore in 1835, going to Pine Creek township, Clinton county, in the spring of
1837, where he bought a farm and lived on it till 1878, when he returned to
Jersey Shore to spend the remainder of his days.

He married Miss Hannah Groff, of Lancaster county, in 1831. To them were born
three sons and three daughters. His sons, David Garman of Jersey Shore, and
Henry Garman of Coatesville, and two daughters, Mrs. Henry Emery, of Clinton
county, and Miss Rebecca Garman, of Jersey Shore, survive him.

"Father" Garman sought to live and adorn the Christian life and profession all
his days. He was a member of the Lutheran church from his youth, and honored
that membership by his devotion and sacrifices, being one of the founders of
the Lutheran church in Pine Creek township. His interest in the welfare of
the church of his choice never waned; even to the last day of his life he
talked of the worship of God. He was a constant reader of sacred literature
and his excellent memory made him a good companion, and his conversation
profitable. As a Christian he made his light and influence felt over
everything that aimed to save souls and to direct his fellow man to the savior
of mankind. "Father" Garman's life impressed itself upon his children, who
were led by his hand into the paths of the Lord, and they still desire to
follow in his footsteps. The memory of such a man is blessed. His funeral
will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
