    JOSEPH N. DOUGHTREY, Reeds Gap, Juniata county, Pa., was born in
  Millerstown, Perry county, Pa., October 16, 1839. Matthew Doughtrey,
  father of Joseph N., was born in Chester county, Pa., and was a
  farmer. At this death in 1891 he was an extensive land owner. He was
  a Democrat, and served as tax collector, supervisor and school
  director. He was an active member of and founded the church at Reeds
  Gap. Mr. Doughtrey was married to Miss Susan Milary, born in Chester
  county, Pa., in 1813, daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Kitchen) Milary.
    Joseph N. Doughtrey attended the public schools in Lack township,
  and made farming his occupation. After spending twelve years in Iowa,
  he returned and took charge of the homestead farm, which contains 133
  acres, and which he has substantially improved.
    Mr. Doughtrey first married Ellen Robinson, daughter of James
  Robinspn, who died, leaving one child, James R., deceased. He married
  secondly Miss Kate Lane, and by her had one children, Clara, deceased.
  Mrs. Kate Doughtrey died in Lack township, and he married thirdly
  Esther S., daughter of Samuel Girler, of Cumberland county; they have
  one child, Laura W.
    Mr. Doughtrey is not an office-seeker, but is an ardent free silver
  Democrat. He is a member of the Tuscarora Grange. The family are
  members of the Methodist Episcopal church.
    The mother of Mr. Doughtrey is eighty years of age and is a bright
  and genial old lady, and finds a quiet and comfortable home with her
  son.
