Elmer R. Cochran, forty-eight, resident of Reno for twenty years and a
native of Virginia City, was found dead in the Truckee river near the foot
of West street Saturday.  According to authorities, Mr. Cochran's death cam
as the result of accidental drowning.

Justice of the Peace Harry Dunseath has ordered an inquest but has not yet
set a time.

Mr. Cochran was the son of Mrs. W.G. Cochran, with whom he resided at 526
Humboldt street, and the brother of Mrs. C.W. Young of Virginia City and
Raymond Cochran of San Francisco.  He was employed by the city of Reno as a
gardener at Wingfield park for a number of years.  He was the uncle of
Charles (Bud) Young, Washoe county deputy sheriff, and Fred Young, both of
Reno, and Dorothy Nichols of Alameda, Calif.

Mr. Cochran was a member of Reno aerie No. 207, Fraternal Order of Eagles,
and a veteran of the first world war.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the O'Brien Rogers
chapel, with the Rev. Garth Sibbald officiating.  Members of the Reno aerie
of Eagles will conduct the services.  Burial will be in Mountain View
cemetery.
