Reno Evening Gazette November 19, 1881
At Rest From Pain
At 12:30 this afternoon death came to the relief of Isaac M. Chamberlain, and he
has gone to join the great majority in the unseen beyond. Mr. Chamberlain was
taken sick last July, the trouble being a solidified liver. He was taken to San
Francisco, where he remained until about a week ago, when he expressed a desire
to return home. All that skill and kind friends could do was done for him, but
Death claimed him as its victim, and he has gone. Mr. Chamberlain was a native
of New York and about 40 years of age. He served three years in the U. S. Navy,
after which he enlisted in the First Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers, and
served in that regiment till the close of the war. He came to Reno in 1872,
where he has since resided. He was a candidate for Sheriff before the
Republican County Convention of 1878, but defeated by A. K. Lamb. W. A. Walker
was Lamb's successor in office and appointed Isaac his deputy, in which capacity
he served until taken sick. He was a prominent member of the Knights of Pythias
and I.O.O.F. He leaves a wife and one child, a brother, W. R. Chamberlain, and
a very large circle of warm personal friends to mourn his untimely taking off.
The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 from Trinity Church.

November 21, 1881
The funeral services over the remains of the late Isaac Chamberlain took place
yesterday under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias. The
funeral procession was very large, and expressions of sympathy for the bereaved
family were universal. The widow was quite heartbroken, and there were scores
who would gladly have taken up a part of her burden. A profound respect for the
memory of the dead man and a felling of sincere condolence for the afflicted
family and relatives is all that can be given, and that is tendered by the
entire community.
