Obituary: Jeanne Laurette Botts
Jeanne Laurette Botts, 52, of Sparks died March 9, at Tahoe Pacific
Hospital in Sparks, following a battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
or Lou Gehrig's disease).
Botts was born in Reno, June 1, 1948 to Jerry and Laurette (Leoni) Maroon.
She was preceded in death by both her parents. She was a graduate of Pershing
County High School in Lovelock.
She received both bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of
Nevada Reno.
Ms. Botts was the recipient of an "Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters"
by UNR in October of 2000. She graduated from UNR in 1970 and became a
nutrition education specialist for the Nevada Cooperative Extension Service in
Reno. In the early 1980s, she relocated to
Carson City and began her long career in service to the State of Nevada. She
held the positions of education coordinator for the Nevada Department of
Commerce, and was deputy commissioner of insurance, analyst for the Nevada
Department of Administration and Budget Division, and was program analyst for
the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau.
In 1999, Ms. Botts relocated to Sparks and became the senior director of
business and financial services for the Washoe County School District.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Ed Bartlett
of Butte, Mont.;
a sister and broth-in-law, Jerry Ann and Doug Jinnett of West New York,
N.J.; two nieces,
Suzanne Wong of Hercules, Calif., and Kim Jinnett of Hoboken, N.J.; one
nephew, David Jinnett
of Chicago, Ill.; three grand-nieces and one grand-nephew.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 19, 2001 at Ross, Burke and
Knobel Mortuary, 2155
Kietzke Lane, Reno. A private inurnment was held at Our Mother of Sorrows
cemetery, Reno.
