Reno Evening Gazette December 4, 1882
Death of Philip Boody
Philip Boody, who was badly crushed on Saturday by being knocked off a wagon at
Chalk-hill crossing by a locomotive, died last night at the house of his niece.
He seems to have been a peculiarly unfortunate man. Some months ago he had a
severe attack of pneumonia, from the effects of which he became insane, and was
sent to the Stockton Insane Asylum, from which he returned improved mentally but
weakened physically. To-morrow Coroner Dickens will hold an inquest. It would
have been held to-day, but witnesses could not be got together. The crossing
where Boody was injured is one of the most dangerous on the road. A short time
ago Mr. Nels Hammond came near being run over by an engine that came around the
sharp bend without warning, and teamsters generally complain that they are
constantly afraid of it.
