William H. Hoyt died on Friday, Jan. 10, 1902, and was buried Sunday. The
funeral being at Hickory church, in charge of Rev's Frampton and Sleep, and
undertaker E.S. Flegal. Interment in the Hoyt cemetery, Grandfather Hoyt
was the son of Dr. Wm. Hoyt, and was born in Massachusetts Nov. 7th, 1819.
When but an infant his parents moved to Clearfield, and from there to
Kersey, Elk Co., where on December 24, 1843, he married Miss Lydia O'Neill,
who survives him. The next fall they moved to Hickory where they have since
resided. Two children were born to them. Theodore C., and Lydia M., wife
of Darius Newell, both living on farms adjoining the old homestead. S.D.
Keller (unreadable word) them father Hoyt raised from childhood, also lives
adjoining. On Christmas day a family reunion assembled at the home, all of
the family being fortunate enough to be present. The two children and their
companions, twelve grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and near friends
enough to make the company number 42. They all had a very enjoyable time
and none seemed happier than grandfather to see his large family gathered
home. We realized that we were not to meet many times in this way, but
little thought that so quickly our circle would be broken. On Friday
evening he was taken violently ill, and lingered in great suffering for two
weeks when he peacefully passed away, ready and anxious to be at home with
Him, Whom he had so faithfully (unreadable word) so many years. We shall
miss him, but we realize that he has gone to await our reunion in that
(unreadable word) and better land.
