   In the death of Mr. Michael Gerg, which occurred last Friday the 3rd, at the 
home of his daughter, Mrs. George Bauer on Brussells Street, St. Marys loses 
another pioneer citizen. The deceased has lived here about 52 years. He was 
born in Munich, Germany, September 14, 1814, and at the time of his death has 
passed the 83rd milestone of his age. Emigrating to America early in 1845 he 
came directly to St. Marys where he lived and died. His wife, Anna Huber, whom 
he married in Munich preceded him to his last resting place about three years 
ago.
   Mr. Gerg was a wagon maker by trade and conducted his business from the time 
of his arrival up to about seven years ago, when he found he was obliged to 
retire. He was the father of twelve children, three of whom died in infancy. 
The other children are: Frank (who died in 1896); Tony, Matt and Charles (the 
latter now resides in Ridgway, PA), Annie (Mrs. John Schauer), Barbara (Mrs. 
Louis Gies who died about 2 years ago), Rosa (Mrs. Xavier Erich), Tilly (Mrs. 
John B. Hoffman) and Kate (Mrs. George Bauer).
   The funeral took place Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the St. Marys Church 
and was largely attended. The St. John's Society, of which the deceased was a 
member, attended in a body.
