  Arthur Sellers Garrett, born on November 24, 1873 in the Garrett homestead on 
Shadeland Avenue, Drexel Hill.  Son of George Sellers and Mary West Maris 
Garrett, both of English descent.  Parents operated farm covering much of 
present site of Drexel Hill.
  Arthur's education procured at Eastern School (Upper Darby), Media Friends' 
School, Friends' Select New York, and Boston.  Helped organize, in 1902, The 
American Water Softener Company of Philadelphia; has been active head of this 
organization and president since 1907.
  Married Hannah Worrall Ogden in 1906: family of five children: George, 
Margaret, Charles (deceased), Mary, and Elizabeth.  Member of Lansdowne Friends' 
Meeting.
  Member of Upper Darby School Board since 1916: became Vice-president in 1918, 
and President in 1921.
  Director of Media-69th Street Trust Company, the Drexel Hill Title and Trust 
Company, and the Lansdowne Bank and Trust Company.  President of Board of 
Trustees of Elwyn Training School.  Active in building and loan associations.
  Has been interested in young folks of community.  Provided athletic field in 
Drexel Hill in memory of brother George.
  His hobby is work-playing with tools, repairing automobiles, clocks, motors, 
mechanical devices-thinking as he works.
