Chester Daily Times (15 Sep 1876)
A MUTE WEDDING.-On Tuesday evening, Mary W. Ward, daughter of George C. Ward,
of this city, and William Hart of Elk Creek, Erie co., Pa., both mutes, were
married at the residence of the bride's father, 1300 King st. The marriage
ceremony was performed by Rev. Francis J. Clerc, of Burlington, N. J., whose
parents were both mutes, and who, through having the power of speech,
performed the ceremony by signs. He was assisted by Rev. Dr. Frost of Trinity
P. R. church. The bridesmaid, Miss Rosa Kyle, and the groomsman, Mr. Theodore
Kiesel, both of this city, were mutes. Miss Dora Hart, sister of the groom,
Miss Annie T. Kentz, of York, Pa., Misses Emma and Laura Stewart, and Mr.
Frank Roth, of this city, all mutes, were present at the wedding. The newly
married couple will start, in a day or two, for their home in Erie county,
where the husband conducts a flourishing farm. It was a notable wedding, and
the sympathy and good wishes of everybody will go with the married pair.-
