MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT. - We are pained to learn of a most distressing accident
which resulted in the death of Robert King, a promising young man, aged
nineteen, son of Samuel King, of Woodcock tp. On Saturday the 16th inst. the
deceased was at a chopping frolic at the house of Wm. Rainey, in Richmond tp.
After supper he started for home, and was not heard of until the following
Monday about 9 o'clock, when his father having become alarmed for his safety,
collected a few of his neighbors and started in search of him. About half a
mile from Mr. Rainey's, the dead body of the young man was found, at the
bottom of a very steep hill, or precipice, with his neck broken, and
dreadfully disfugured from the effects of the weather. It is supposed by his
friends, that the deceased attempted to descend the hill, in order to take a
nearer course home, being deceived as to its declivity, and losing his balance
was precipitated upon a ledge of rocks at the base of the steep, causing his
mmmediate death.--
The deceased was the only child residing with his parents, and was their
chief stay in their declining years.
