Virginia, Marriages, 1740-1850
Know all men by these presents, That we, Patrick Callahan and Richard Booth,
are held and firmly bound unto William H. Cabell, Esq., Governor of Virginia,
in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, to which payment
well and truly to be made, to the said Governor or his successors, we bind
ourselves, and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and
severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this
12th day of November 1808.
The Condition of the above Obligation is such, that whereas there is a
Marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between Patrick Callahan and Betsey
(cannot read) Brown, now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct said
Marriage, then the above Obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full
force and virtue.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered in the Presence of: E. Dunston

Patrick Callahan (his mark)
Richard Booth (his mark)

Additional Comments:
We believe Betsy Brown's maiden name was WINSTED or WINSTEAD (b. 1786). The
grooms surname in records may be spelled: CALAHAN -or- CALLAHAN. The document
appears to have it spelled with 2-"L"'s.
