  HARRY C. BRODE, superintendent of the Blair County Home, was born in East 
Freedom Township, Blair County, Pa., in 1873. Joseph C. Brode, his father, was 
born in Bedford County, Pa., and was an engineer with the Pennsylvania Railroad 
until his retirement. He died in 1928 and his wife, Rebecca (Benton) Brode, in 
1903, she having been born in Blair County. Harry C. Brode was educated in the 
public schools of Altoona, Pa., and thereafter worked for the Pennsylvania 
Railroad for ten years. In 1902, he became a traveling salesman for the Armour 
Packing Company in the central part of the state and was so employed over a 
period of twenty-five years. He resigned in the autumn of 1927 to accept the 
stewardship of the Blair County Home, to the superintendency of which he was 
elected in April, 1928. He has entire charge of the home, including its farm 
work, and his wife is matron of the institution. He is a member of the 
Independent Order of Foresters, the Grange, United Commercial Travelers, and 
Kiwanis Club. He is a member of the Third Presbyterian Church. He was married 
October 24, 1894, to Annie Stoke, of Blair County, and they have two daughters, 
Rebecca May and Norma Gertrude, the former a graduate nurse of Philadelphia and 
the latter a student in the Hollidaysburg schools.
