ANDREW C. BIDDLE, who is engaged in general farming and stock raising on a
farm of 152 acres in Woodbury Township, has been a resident of Blair County
since 1891, and was born July 19, 1852, in Bedford County, Pa., a son of
Jacob and Susan (Marsden) Biddle. Jacob Biddle followed farming in Bedford
County, Pa. His union with Susan Marsden resulted in the birth of the
following children: Malinda, deceased, wife of William Cochran; Caroline,
deceased, wife of Alex Boor; Myra, wife of S. F. Hetrick; Gilbert; and Andrew
C., the subject of this record. Jacob Biddle was politically a Republican. He
held membership with the Lutheran church.
     Andrew C. Biddle spent his boyhood on his father's farm in Bedford
County, Pa., and after obtaining a common school education, engaged in
agricultural pursuits, which he has followed all his life. In 1891 he
purchased his present farm of 152 acres in Woodbury Township, from the heirs
of the George Hewitt estate. The barn which was on the place at the time of
his purchase, was struck by lightning and entirely destroyed, and was later
replaced by the fine bank barn, which is now on the farm. Mr. Biddle carries
on farming in a general way, and raises sufficient stock for his own use.
     In 1871 Mr. Biddle married Rebecca Lyons, who is a daughter of Henry and
Elizabeth Lyons, and is one of the following children born to her parents:
William, Anna, Rebecca, Elias, Joseph, Grant, and Benjamin. Her father was a
native of Lancaster County, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Biddle are parents of the
following children: Anna, who is the wife of William Swisher; Ida, who
married George Zeigler; Charles; Sophia, who is the wife of Albert Fry;
Minnie, who married Thomas Steward; Grace, and Nell. Mr. Biddle is identified
with the Republican party.
