             Will of Joseph Kirkbride Jr., 1748

I Joseph Kirkbride of the Falls in the County of Bucks and province
of Pennsylvania, yeoman.  Being weak of body but of sound mind and
memory, thanks be given to Almighty God for the same; Considering the
uncertainty of this Transitory Life, Do Make and ordain this my Last
Will and Testament in manner following:

Committing my soul to God  that it and my Body to the Earth to be
Decently Buried at the Discretion of my Executors herein after named.

In the first place I will and Direct that all my Just Debts and
funeral Expenses be fully paid and Discharged;

Also I give, Devise and bequeath unto my Son Joseph all that my
Plantation whereon I now Live With all and Singular the appurtenances
thereunto belonging to hold him and his Heirs and Assigns forever, To
posses one half thereof when he shall arrive to the age of Twenty-one
years, and the other half thereof Immediately after the Decease of my
well Beloved Wife Sarah Kirkbride to whom I give the other half
During her Natural Life.

Also I give and bequeath unto my said well Beloved wife, Sarah, one
moity or half part of my Household goods and the Services of all my
Negroes During the minority of my Son  Joseph; But when my Said Son
arrives to the age of twenty-one years, then the said Negroes to be
Equally Divided between my sd Wife and my said Son.  Also I give and
bequeath unto my Said Son one Bed and furniture and my Desk and all
my Wareing Apparrel, with my Watch and cane. 

The rest of my Estate whether Real or personal, after my Just Debts
and funeral Expenses be fully paid and Discharged as aforesaid, I
give, devise and bequeath unto my five daughters (Viz) Pheby, Hannah,
Mary, Elizabeth and Sarah; to be equally Divided amongst them share
and share alike, to hold to them and their respective Heirs and
Assigns forever.  But if any of my said children dye before they come
of age than the share of the Deceased to be equally divided between my
said wife and the Surviving Children..My mind and will is that my
Executors herein after named do as soon as conveniently they can sell
and convey as much of my Land, in the ___ or in Pennsylvania, for the
best price that can be reasonably had for the Same to Enable them to
Discharge my Just Debts as aforesaid.  Also I hereby give full power
and absolute authority to my Executors herein after named and to the
survivors of them to convey and Confirm all Such Lands as I have sold
and given Bond to make them a Title, upon the payment of the
consideration money and interest, if due; as also all Lands as shall
be sold for the payment of my Just Debts as aforesaid.

And Lastly I do nominate and Appoint my well Beloved Wife, Sarah
Kirkbride, my Brothers-in-law Nicholas Austin and Mark Watson and my
Brother Mahlon Kirkbride to be my Executors of this my Last Will and
Testament; and I hereby make null and void all other will or wills by
me heretofore made, and this only to be taken for my last Will and
Testament.  In Witness where of I have to these presents set my hand
and Seale this twenty first Day of May in the Year of our Lord One
thousand seven Hundred and forty Eight - Anno Domi 1748.
