Will of William Cree
In the name of God Amen. I William Cree of Beccaria township Clearfield
County and state of Pennsylvania being sick and weak in body but of sound mind
memory and understanding (praise be God for it) and considering the certainty
of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and to the end I may be
better prepared to leave this world whenever it shall please God to call me
hence do therefore make and declare this my last will and testament in manner
following that is to say first and principally I commend my soul into the
hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping for free pardon of all my sins and to
enjoy everlasting happiness in the heavenly kingdom through Jesus Christ my
Savior and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried. I do hereby
will that my real property comprising the form and premises wherein I now
reside in Beccaria Township Clearfield County and state of Pennsylvania with
all the appurtenances thereunto belonging shall be sold in the course of the
autumn of the year 1839 for the purpose of paying all my just debts and
funeral expenses and the surplus or residue shall be placed in the hands of my
family and converting it (sic) their use in the manner following (viz) I do
give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary all my household furniture beds
bedding of every description to her sole use and behoof during the term of her
natural life and one cow which shall remain at her disposal. I do hereby will
unto my sons David, John, and William all my right title and interest to the
undivided half of the tract of land in the name of Solomon Lyons purchased by
me at Commissioners sale lying and being in Beccaria township on the waters of
Clearfield Creek to fall into their possession immediately after my decease.
I do hereby will all my live and dead stock horses cows and c(except the cow
above mentioned) farming implements geers (sic) etc to their use and behoof to
take place immediately after my decease so that they may have the benefit of
them without delay and also I hereby most solemnly bind them by every tie of
love and duty to support their mother in every thing necessary to her comfort
during the natural life provided she does not intermarry but remains a widow
and further I hereby will that the aforesaid David John and William shall
together with their mother take care of and bring up my son James until he
comes of age at 21 years except he should desire and it should be thought
advisable for his interest o learn any trade or business that might be judged
most profitable and beneficial for him but if he prefers staying with the
family and giving every assistance in his power until he becomes of age let
him do so and they shall give him a horse worth eighty dollars saddle and
bridal and the sum of one hundred dollars if he should leave the family and go
to a trade at the age of 16 or 17 then the said David John and William shall
be released from the obligation of giving him the horse etc but shall give him
the 100 dollars on his coming to age. It is not considered that the mother is
liable to any claim of said James as aforesaid but David John and William to
be responsible. Also I will that the said David John and William shall
provided for and bring up my daughter Hannah Jane in a proper and comfortable
manner until she attains the age of eighteen and then to give her a good bed
and bedding and a good cow and household furniture to the amount of twenty
five dollars. If David should agree to go to a trade at 17 or 18 years of age
he may go and give up his share in all the property except that John and
William pay him one hundred dollars when he is free from the trade. I do
hereby constitute and appoint Robert Leonard as Executor to this my last will
and testament. In witness whereof I William Cree the Testator have to this my
will set my hand and seal this fifth day of December A. D.

I the above named Wm. Cree the testator in the foregoing will being yet
of sound mind thank God for all his mercies have on due reflection thought
proper to appoint and do by these presents appoint and constitute Saml Fulton
with the above named Robert Leonard to be my Executors of this my last will
and testament and it is further my will that when the place is sold there
shall be paid to my two step daughters twenty five dollars. In witness
whereof William Cree the testator have to this my last will set my hand and
seal this 24th day of June A.D. 1839. Wm. Cree

Before me James T. Leonard for the probate of wills and granting Letters
of Administration in and for said county of Clearfield personally came John
Weld Samuel M. Smith, Easter Feltwell, and Ann Smith who being sworn and
affirmed according to law doth depose and say that they were present and saw
and heard William Cree the testator sign seal and publish pronounce and
declare the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his last will and
testament and at the time of so doing he was of perfect sound mind memory and
understanding.
