      Fatal Accident in Middlesex
[Correspondence of the Richmond Dispatch]
        WEST POINT, September 1, 1874
A sad accident occurred last Saturday about
12 o'clock near Saluda, Middelsex county. Mr.
Thomas Montague and his wife were riding in a
buggy, and when about one and a half miles above
Saluda the horse took fright and ran away. Mrs.
Montague jumped or was thrown out, breaking her
arm and bruising her badly. She is still
unconscious, and but little hope of her recovery.
Mr. Montague held on for a few seconds when he
was also thrown out and killed, dying in about
two hours. He was buried yesterday at Gloucester
Courthouse by the Masons, he being a member of
that Order for many years. Mr. Montague lived
near Urbana. He and his wife were driving gently
along eating a lunch, when the horse took fright
and started. Mr. Montague was about sixty years
of age, and leaves three sons and one daughter
besides a large number of friends to mourn his
loss. Bob.
