COL. GEORGE W. STOVER

Col. George W. Stover died at his home in Callensburg on Sunday, January
2, aged 82 years 11 months and 14 days. He was born on Jan. 18, 1833, and
located in Clarion County in 1844 when a boy of 11 years old. He had resided
in Callensburg since that time. He was married twice. His first wife Rebecca
Cox died on May 11, 1873. They had a family of seven children. In 1875
he was married to Mary E. Keister and five children were born to them.
He was grandfather of 46 children and had 10 great-grandchildren.

Col. Stover at the outbreak of the Civil War enlisted in Aug. 1861 in Co.
A. 103rd Pa Vol. Regiment. He re-enlisted in 1864 and was taken prisoner
at Plymouth, N.C., on April 20, 1864 and was confined in Andersonville
Prison almost 9 months. He was converted to God in 1913 and in the death
of Col. Stover the community looses a sterling citizen, the wife of a good
husband, the children a kind father, the church a faithful worker and many
have been made better by his being on earth.

Funeral services were conducted at Callensburg last Thursday by his pastor
Rev. J. H. Rupert, and his body was laid to rest in the Callensburg Cemetery.
