  Leader Vindicator 1944
  Mrs Rose G. Sloan, 79 , died at her home in Clarion at 4:10 p.m., Tuesday, March
  7, 1944, following a heart attack.  A descendant of the first white child born
  in Clarion county, she was born in Clarion August 15, 1865, a daughter of J.L.
  and Mary Guthrie.  In 1882 she married Squire William H. Sloan, and had lived in
  clarion her entire life.
  
  She was a member of the First Presbyterian church, the Order of Eastern Star and
  was an honorary member of the American LegIon auxiliary.
  
  Surviving are the following children:  Mrs. Anna Mae Beatty, Samuel J. and John
  E. Sloan of Clarion, Alice M. Sloan of Chicago, Ill,; Edward G. Sloan of New
  Gulf, Texas; Mrs. Elizabeth Grotefend of New Kensington, and William R. Sloan of
  Buffalo, N.Y.   She is also survived by four sisters, Alice, Harriette, Sarah
  and Nettie Guthrie of Denver, Colorado.
  
  Mrs Sloan was preceded in death by her husband and three children.  One son,
  Robert, died in service during World War I.
  
  A funeral service was held at the family home at 2:30 p.m. last Friday with the
  Rev. Roy Blair, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, in charge.  Interment
  was made in the Clarion cemetery.
