  Leader Vindicator 1944
  Samuel Blair Simpson, 69-year-old Vandergrift pioneer, died Monday, April 10,
  1944, at 10:30 in his home at 1015 Hancock Avenue.
  
  Mr. Simpson was the son of Joseph and Lizzie Jane Simpson.  He was born in the
  Blair Settlement, Porter Township, Clarion county, February 2, 1875.  He went to
  what is now Vandergrift  - in 1896 and helped to plan the town as an employee
  of the Vandergrift Land Improvement Company.
  
  Mr. Simpson had lived in Vandergrift continuously since 1896 with the exception
  of a few years spent in Glassport, where he was employed as a contractor.  For
  the last three years he was employed as an inspector by the Pennsylvania State
  Highway Department.  Mr. Simpson was a member of the Vandergrift Fire Company No. 2.
  
  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle H. Simpson, one son, Cpl. Everet M. Simpson
  of Camp Shelby, Miss; three daughters, Mrs. Floyd H. Scott of Vandergrift; Mrs.
  Lawrence Dunmire of Apollo, and Mrs. Homer Kerr at home; seven grandchildren,
  one great grandchild, three brothers, James G., Urban G. and Harvey J. Simpson
  all of Vandergrift, and three sisters, Mrs. James K. Shunk and Mrs. J. L. Craig,
  both of Vandergrift, and Mrs. Howard Blackson of Apollo, R.D.
  
  Friends were received at the Simpson residence, 1015 Hancock Avenue, until
  Thursday morning when the body was removed to the Thompson funeral home, 274 
  Franklin Avenue, where friends were received after 11 o'clock with the Rev.
  Michael B. Goldner, of the Vandergrift St. Paul's Lutheran church officiating,
  assisted by the Rev. Joseph J. Gilbert of the Apollo Reformed church.  Burial
  was made in the Vandergrift cemetery.
