George W. ARBLASTER

George W. ARBLASTER, new Bethlehem's oldest citizen, died at his home in
Arch street, Monday, April 9th, 1934, following a week's illness. He was
aged 86 years, 1 month and 2 days. His death occurred just two years to
the day after the death of his brother, James ARBLASTER of Kittanning,
at one time a resident of New Bethlehem. But for a few years spend at Reynoldsville,
PA., Mr. ARBLASTER lived the greater part of his life in New Bethlehem.
Some thirty-five years ago he operated a pottery plant in Penn street,
and later a steam laundry. Most recently he was associated with his son,
C.W. ARBLASTER, in the grocery business in Wood Street. During the last
few years of his life he has been retired.

He was born March 7, 1848 at Marion, O., being a son of George and Susan
(AMEY) ARBLASTER. In 1886 (Note: This is a typo or factual error..should
be 1866. JJenkins 9/9/1999.) he was united in marriage to Sarah RADER,
who survives. Three children were born to their union, one of whom is living,
Carey W. ARBLASTER, of this place. Three sisters also survive, namely,
Mrs. Hughey McCafferty of Pontiac, Mich.; Mrs. Jennie Jones of Swissvale,
Pa., and Mrs. Geo. Walls of Braddock.

He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of New Bethlehem. During
his active years he was public spirited and interested in the welfare of
his town. He was a life-long Democrat and took an active part in the local
activities of his party. For many years he served on the election board
in New Bethlehem.

Funeral Services were held at his late home this (Thursday) afternoon at
2:00 o'clock, conducted by Dr. W. E. Davis, pastor of the M. E. chruch.
Out of respect to his memory the business places of New Bethlehem were
closed between 2:00 and 3:00 o'clock, the hour of the funeral. Interment
under the direction of R. F. Mateer & Son took place in the New Bethlehem
cemetery.
