Bios: Israel Stewart, 1830-1887: Greene County

ISRAEL STEWART, deceased, was born in Greene County, Penn., May 17, 1830, a 
son of James and Mary Stewart (nee Blair), (Deceased).  Mr. Stewart was 
united in marriage, March 24, 1853, with Rebecca Phillips, born in Wayne 
Township, December 18, 1827, a daughter of Richard and Abigail (Starkey) 
Phillips, natives of Greene County, and now deceased.  Mr. and Mrs. Stewart 
were the parents of ten children--Thomas L., Richard, James, Elizabeth M., 
with of Kenney Strosnider; Jesse H., Spencer M., Mary J., wife of Thomas 
Calvert, Abigail F. and Sarah P,; and George W. (deceased).  Mr. Stewart was 
a stone-mason by trade, but in later years devoted his time to farming, and 
owned 300 acres of land near Blacksville, West Virginia.  He was a deacon in 
the Baptist Church, of which his widow and family are also members.  He died 
October 29, 1887.
