    George  W. Scott, farmer, Rutan, Penn., was born in 
Center Township, this county, April 30, 1837. His parents 
are James and Charlotte (Strawn) Scott, natives of Greene 
County, where they were married and remained until Mr. 
Scott's death in 1884. His widow is still living. 

    George W. was united in marriage July 4, 1864, with 
Amanda J. Woods, who was born in Waynesburg, Penn, October 
25, 1843, and is a daughter of Samuel and Leah R. Wood (nee 
Divers). Mrs. Scott's mother was born in Baltimore, Md. And 
her father was a native of Washington County, Penn, where 
they were married. They settled in Waynesburg and remained 
until their death - Mrs. Woods dying June 6, 1885, and her 
husband June 21, 1886. 
  
    To Mr. and Mrs. Scott have been born six children, viz. 
- Emma L., wife of George B. McNeely, M.D., Mary C.; Nellie 
L., Reynolds and Claude. Mr. Scott has devoted his life 
chiefly to farming, and owns 131 acres of land where he and 
his family reside. When war broke out Mr. Scott entered the 
service of his country in Company I, Eighth Pennsylvania 
Reserves, and served three years. He passed through many 
serious engagements, and was wounded three times. He has 
filled the office of auditor of his township. Mrs. Scott is 
a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
