Jesse McNeely, farmer, P O Rutan, Penna, was born in
Wayne township, Greene county, Penna, April 11, 1851. He is
a son of John and Elizabeth McNeely, who were natives of
Pennsylvania and settled after marriage in Greene county,
where Mrs McNeely depart this life in Wayne township. Mr
McNeely afterward married a Mrs Coen, whose maiden name was
Stockdale. They moved to Center township and remained until
Mr McNeely's death. His widow came to her death June 13,
1888, by the falling of a porch roof. She was standing on
the porch when the roof fell in and killed her instantly.
Jesse was united in marriage November 6, 1875, with
Melissa VanCleve who was born in Center township, August 7,
1852. Her parents were John VanCleve and Ursula Throckmorton
VanCleve, also natives of this county and residents of
Center township.
Mr and Mrs McNeely have two children: James A McNeely
and John H McNeely. In connection with his farming, Mr
McNeely has been engaged extensively in the lumber business.
He is the owner of seventy six acres of land where he and
his family reside. He has served as school director of his
township, and was elected justice of the peace February,
1888, for a term of five years. Mrs McNeely is a devoted
member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
