W H BARCLAY, farmer and stock grower, Khedive, Penna, 
was born March 6, 1836, where he now resides on a farm of 
one hundred and seventy eight acres.  He is a son of Hugh 
Barclay and Phoebe Craft Barclay, the oldest of their five 
children.  His grandfather, Hon Hugh Barclay, was of Scotch 
Irish descent.  He was a representative of the Pennsylvania 
State Legislature, and during his term introduced the bill 
establishing the Greene Academy at Carmicheals, Penna.  W H 
Barclay's father was a farmer all his life.
  
  His family consisted of five children, all of whom are 
married.  Mr Barclay was reared on the farm, received his 
education in Greene Academy, and has mad farming the 
business of his life.
  
      In 1856 he was married to Sarah E Minor, daughter of 
John P Minor.  She died in 1862.  In 1866 Mr Barclay was 
again united in marriage with Martha J Arford, daughter of 
Henry Arford and Mary McCann Arford.  Mr and Mrs Barclay are 
the parents of seven children: Sarah Ellen Barclay; George P 
Barclay; W H Barclay; Myrtle V Barlcay; Phoebe E Barclay; 
Norval L Barclay; and Harry S Barclay.  Mr Barclay is a 
Republican, and he and his wife are members of the 
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in which he is a trustee.
