Will of Henry Helsel, Sr., [d. 1899] late of Taylor Twp., deceased,
followed by his obituary, found in a March 1899 issue of the Martinsburg
"Weekly Herald":

I, Henry Helsel, Sr. of Taylor township, in the County of Blair and State
of Pennsylvania, farmer, being of sound mind, memory and understanding,
do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and
making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made and first
I direct that my body be decently interred in the grave yard at the
Albright Church (Brethren), in Taylor Twp. according to the rites and
ceremonies of the Dunkard Church, the church to which I belong and that
my funeral be conducted plainly in a manner corresponding with my estate,
and situation in life.  As to such estate as it hath pleased God to
intrust me with I dispose of as follows, viz. I give and bequeath to my
beloved wife Catharine Helsel all my personal and real estate, she to
have and enjoy the same during her natural life, she to pay my funeral
expenses and just debts.

No inventory or appraisement to be made.

After her decease or death, the estate that may be left by her to be
equally divided among my children share and share alike, that is after it
is sold by my executor hereinafter named, that is the proceeds of such
sale after payment of debts and expenses, to be divided equally among my
children Frederick Helsel, Margaret, intermarried to Michael P. Dick,
Levi Helsel, Henry Helsel, Jane intermarried to Samuel Burket, and Samuel
Helsel in case of death of any of these, their children to have the share
of the parent.  I do hereby constitute and appoint D.S. Brumbaugh, of
Roaring Spring executor of this my last will and testament, he to make
sale of any property personal and real that may be left after the death
of my wife.  He to execute deed make distribution among my heirs without
proceed in the Orphans Court.

In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence
of the witnesses this 24th day of February 1894.

This 11th day of May A.D. 1900, before me, W.H. Irwin, Register for the
Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the
County of Blair, personally came John W. Blake and S.B. Lynn the
subscribing witnesses to the above will, and being duly sworn according
to law, did depose and say they were personally present and saw and heard
Henry Helsel, the testator, sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare
the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his testament and last
will, that they signed their names in the presence and at the request of
the said testator, and in the presence of each other, and that at the
time of so doing he, the testator, was of perfect and sound mind, memory
and understanding, to the best of their knowledge and belief.

Before me, the Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of
Administration in and for the County of Blair, personally came D.S.
Brumbaugh, who, being duly sworn, do depose and say that as executor of
the last Will and Testament of Henry Helsel, deceased he will well and
truly administer the goods and chattles, rights and credits of said
deceased according to law, and also will diligently comply with the
provisions of the law relating to Collateral Inheritances.

Township, deceased, were on the eleventh day of May, A.D. 1900, granted
to D.S. Brumbaugh.

OBITUARY OF HENRY HELSEL, found in the Martinsburg WEEKLY HERALD, March
1899:

Henry Helsel, Sr., died at his residence, about one and one-half miles
southwest of Roaring Spring, on Friday of last week, aged 78 years, 9
months and 6 days.  Mr. Helsel was an unassuming Christian, a member of
the German Baptist church for 45 years.  In 1845 he was united in
marriage to Miss Catharine Albright.  He was the father of 12 children,
six of whom preceeded him to the grave.  He is survived by his widow and
the following children: Frederick of McKeesport, Samuel, of East Freedom;
Levi, Henry, Mrs. Margaret Dick and Mrs. Jane Burket, of Taylor township.
 Funeral services were helf on Sunday, in the Albright church, conducted
by Rev. James Sell. Interment was made near by.
